Happy Birthday Running Streak

It was my birthday yesterday and it was kind of a significant age (no I’m not saying how old), but it’s a significant age for me. I think I took it rather well because I realized that birthdays are made for three things:

1. Doing your favourite things that day without any excuses or apologies.

2. Reflecting on all the things that you’re grateful for the past year.

3. Taking a minute to decide what things are worth pursing in the upcoming year.

So when thinking about these three things, this is what I came up with:

Back to Koh Samui and my love of routines

I’ve been on Koh Phangan for over a month now. This is something that I’ve wanted to do for a little while, just stay on an island for a longer period than a week or so and just enjoy beach life. I really love this place and even though I know that there are so many more places to see in the world and so many more things to do, I’d still like to come back here and chill for a few weeks, if only because the people are friendly and I’d always feel at home.

Were on our way to take the speed ferry back to Koh Samui and we’ll stay in the hotel we were in the first time we stopped in Koh Samui. Dean liked the place because of the pool for his free diving training, while I enjoyed being able to lift weights and do some treadmill running out of the heat. I wish I could say that I ran more than I did though.

Thai massages and I miss cross fit

I leave Thailand a week tomorrow. I had to buy my ticket today 😦 I am absolutely devastated, but I am trying to do whatever I can to keep my spirits up and continue enjoying every last minute until I have to go.

Final days

Final days

So to help ease the process of having to leave the island and this beautiful beach I decided to go for a massage. I love Thai massages and you really can’t go wrong with a 10 USD per hour massage. I plan to get one (or two) every day until I leave.

I was thinking that I hadn’t done cross fit in months and months (besides those quick sessions while I was in Koh Samui last month). I love how quick the workouts are and how powerful I feel afterwards. I feel results and I see results. That’s something that running hasn’t been able to do for me. I loved this post about the benefits of cross fit to help with running:

The one thing that is good about getting back to real life after vacation is getting back into routines. I suppose that’s something to remember too…

Fun Run or is it???

I’ve never run so sick in my whole life and it was my own fault.

One of the biggest parties in Toronto every year is Gay Pride. A whole weekend of closed off streets for street parties, music, concerts, dancing and drinking and all around general mayhem. The parade itself is over 4 hours long! The whole city seems to celebrate and no more so than in the area where two of my besties, Stacey and Jordan, used to live.

I love these people xo :)

Halfhearted stretching

I woke up for another quick run today (almost 5km) and the one thing I like about running is that the more you run the better you get. Yes, you definitely have bad runs or a bad week of runs, but when you have one that’s not too bad, or better yet, fantastic, it makes you feel kinda awesome all day. I guess even when you have a crappy run at least you can take solace in the fact that you at least ran. However, I am still wondering if I am ever going to get used to running in really hot weather. That part of the running is not coming any easier yet…

Spicy Thai food and James Bond Poses

Last night we went to this place in the ‘down town’ of Thong Nai Pan Yai for Thai food. And of course I ordered the Thai Seafood Salad and asked that it be a little spicy. Both Dean and I are a bit whimpy about spicy food. It looked awesome…

Yummy!

Running away from body issues

Yesterday I went for a run. It got so hot, that it was uncomfortable by the end and I felt absolutely terrible. It wasn’t enjoyable at all.

A timeless vacation dilemma

I have the same dilemma every time I go on holiday.

You see, I’m a total foodie. I love trying out new, (generally of the higher caloric quality),  dishes, chased with some wine. I also could eat a lot if I allowed myself the chance. And believe me when I tell you that it’s not all good stuff I’d choose to eat. As far as I’m concerned, eating out should be one of life’s greatest pleasures. I am notorious for taking forever to choose just the right dish from a menu and getting food envy when the person I’m with chooses a better looking or tasting meal than I do. Which oddly enough, happens quite often…

Beach play on TNP

The other day Dean and I went to the beach and I was determined to dunk him under water. He taught me this great ‘tripping the person and they’d go backwards into the water’ trick  (which he tried on me numerous times) so I attempted to use it on him.

Dean takes pictures while I sleep in hammocks

So this is the outside of the bungalow…

Home away from our new home...

Home away from our new home…

And believe me when I tell you it is tiny (well… cozy let’s say).

This is where I stayed again this morning and a lot this afternoon because I still felt like I had been hit with a two ton steel beam. Chilling in the hammock helped a lot.
